What kind of work?
What kind of work do we do? We are a full-service architecture firm focused on the highly personalized and place-based design of residences, restaurants, and other facilities which celebrate their connection to the natural world and long-term land stewardship. We have been designing residences, restaurants, breweries, wineries, and distilleries for over 14 years. That experience makes us capable, but how are those project types related? The heart of how we approach all those programs is a connection to place, a connection to the land.
What is “place”?
What do we mean by “place”? A certain intellectual heritage in architecture gives extra meaning to that word. The first obvious and most common connotation is the building’s site and its relationship to the physical characteristics of that site. For us, and for some others, it’s not just the building site, but also the neighborhood that it sits in and the ecosystem it will inhabit.
Let’s reach for something better
I’ve had this symbol in my head for years. A “K” that represents a building’s relationship to the ground, its environment, and the sky. A logo that started out as a furniture-maker’s mark. One that could be made with three strikes of a chisel, like a rune.
